Diamondoids and DNA Nanotechnologies
Diamondoids are cage-like saturated hydrocarbons consisting of fused cyclohexane rings. The Diamondoids family of compounds is one of the best candidates for molecular building blocks (MBBs) in nanotechnology to construct organic nanostructures compared to other MBBs known so far. The challenge is to find a route for self-assembly of these cage hydrocarbons and their applications in the bottom-...
متن کاملTopography-controlled alignment of DNA origami nanotubes on nanopatterned surfaces.
The controlled positioning of DNA nanostructures on technologically relevant surfaces represents a major goal along the route toward the full-scale integration of DNA-based materials into nanoelectronic and sensor devices. Previous attempts to arrange DNA nanostructures into defined arrays mostly relied on top-down lithographic patterning techniques combined with chemical surface functionalizat...
متن کاملPatterning and Functionalization of Thermoplastic Microchip for Automated High-throughput Microarray Gene Synthesis
The development of DNA microarray technology for high-throughput gene synthesis is hampered by poor sequence quality and inefficient gene assembly. We developed a programmable microchip using thermoplastic cyclic olefin copolymer (COC) functionalized with hydrophilic SiO2 thin film arrays, creating physically isolated picolitter reactors that constrain liquid via differential wettability. These...
متن کاملCarbon nanotubes: synthesis, integration, and properties.
Synthesis of carbon nanotubes by chemical vapor deposition over patterned catalyst arrays leads to nanotubes grown from specific sites on surfaces. The growth directions of the nanotubes can be controlled by van der Waals self-assembly forces and applied electric fields. The patterned growth approach is feasible with discrete catalytic nanoparticles and scalable on large wafers for massive arra...
متن کاملSelf-assembly and modular functionalization of three-dimensional crystals from oppositely charged proteins
Multicomponent crystals and nanoparticle superlattices are a powerful approach to integrate different materials into ordered nanostructures. Well-developed, especially DNA-based, methods for their preparation exist, yet most techniques concentrate on molecular and synthetic nanoparticle systems in non-biocompatible environment. Here we describe the self-assembly and characterization of binary s...
